CasteGate: The Untold Story

Director: Vikram Mishra

Duration: 1 hr 29 mins 44 secs

Language: English

Synopsis: CasteGate: The Untold Story focuses on themes of justice and accountability, highlighting how false narratives can undermine civil liberties. The film features interviews and evidence that reveal hidden hate within progressive rhetoric, the role of media and academia, and the impact of bureaucratic abuse on individuals.

In 2020, California’s Civil Rights Department (CRD), influenced by a group called “Equality Labs,” filed a lawsuit against tech entrepreneurs Sundar Iyer, Ramana Kompella, and Cisco Systems. Instead of seeking justice, the CRD made unfounded claims against Hindu Americans, which led to damaging stereotypes and the introduction of SB 403, legislation promoting bias.

In April 2024, a judge dismissed the case due to misconduct by the CRD, and SB 403 was not enacted by Governor Gavin Newsom. This situation illustrates a troubling trend of targeting individuals through misinformation and the failure of institutions to seek the truth. CasteGate serves as a documentary record that calls for addressing institutional misconduct and defending democratic principles.

Oslo and Pooja’s annual trip of 5000 kms is a journey of promise, courage and companionship. Duration:

Synopsis: The Great Famine of 1876-1878 occurred in the southern states of India. Before the famine, the Pandiyan community used to make clay idols for their worships. When the clay idols got damaged due to the sun and rain, they decided to make stone idols. On March 14, 1892, at night, while the Pandiyan community was bringing a stone idol, the Aiko community snatched the idol and took it into the forest to prevent the festival proceedings. The Aiko community didn’t want the Pandiyan community to use the stone idols as equal to theirs due to the caste discrimination.Did the Pandiyan community retrieve the idol from the forest? Did the festival happen? Why did the Aiko community snatch the idol to prevent the festival? These are questions answered in this movie. In the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, in a place called Kurinjiangulam, a dispute over establishing a temple for the Kandariyamman idol led to the brutal murder of four people on March 14, 1992. Even after 33 years of that 1992 incident, the festival is still in the dormant state and the Kandariyamman idol and temple yet to be opened for the people to conduct the festival. The perpetrators of the 1992 murder have also not been punished to this date. I consider this a social injustice inflicted on humanity. This story is based on the March 14, 1892, true event. Despite the passage of many decades, some things remain unchanged till today. This is time for us to regroup, reasses the conditions and get things in place for everyone to live in a harmonious and peaceful life.
